Gengineered Human Racial Templates
Genetic Upgrades
Alpha Template (TL9)
39 points
Alpha Template has been available much longer than Gilgamesh, and the oldest Alphas are around 50 years old by now. Careful eugenic improvements ensure an attractive, athletic, healthy individual. Medscanning may reveal minor "mutations" compared to the human norm, such as being born without an appendix. This is a simple Homo superior genotype that TL9+ parents – or societies – might select for their children.
- Attribute Modifiers: DX+1 [20]; HT+1 [10].
- Advantages: Appearance (Attractive) [4]; Longevity [2]; Resistant to Disease (+3) [3].
- Features: No Appendix; Taboo Traits (Genetic Defects, Mental Instability).
Alpha in Earth 2100 is Legality Class 4, and costs $64,000.
Sub-Races
Omega: An enhanced version of the Alpha, designed to be both beautiful and intelligent; increase Appearance to Beautiful/Handsome [12] and add IQ+1 [20].
New point total is 67 points, Legality Class 3, and cost $92,000.
Martian Template (TL9)
10 points
Also known as "Light Worlder". Human metabolisms may be genetically adapted for life on planets with gravity significantly lower than Earth's. Generic "light worlder" gengineering results in a willowy build, often with long limbs and spidery fingers. Many Martian colonists have had their children altered this way. The modifications are also helpful in space travel.
- Attribute Modifiers: ST-2 [-20].
- Advantages: Long Arms [20]; Long Legs [10].
- Features: Home gravity is 0.2 to 0.7 G. Increase height by up to 2' over the norm for the lowered ST, but weight is 15% to 25% lower than normal. They can sometimes squeeze into places that normal people can't fit, but this is balanced by their extra height (needing to duck under doors and so on).
Availability: $35,000. LC4.
Orion Template (TL9)
70 points
These genetic upgrades were eugeneered with slight metabolic and glandular modifications designed to burn away excess fat, enhance physical performance, and optimize their crisis response. They are good "super-soldier" candidates, but might be created by anyone who wants a highly athletic variant race. This Novartis creation was banned as soon after the first few were born around 40 years ago. UN has banned all "super-soldiers" due to historical reasons. There are rumors about a certain "Great Leader" having a breeding program. Novartis denies any and all connections to him.
- Attribute Modifiers: ST+1 [10]; DX+1 [20]; HT+1 [10].
- Advantages: Appearance (Attractive) [4]; Combat Reflexes [15]; Fearlessness 1 [2]; Fit [5]; High Pain Threshold [10].
- Disadvantages: Overconfidence (12) [-5].
- Quirks: Attentive [-1].
- Features: Taboo Traits (Genetic Defects, Mental Instability).
- Availability: $95,000. LC4.
Homo Superior Parahumans
Gilgamesh Template (TL10)
65 points
State-of-the-art parahuman, most commonly children of very wealthy couples. The new technology was perfected in Switzerland just twenty years ago, so most Gilgamesh are still children. Early Maturation is generally not used on Earth, because 9-year olds looking like adults are seen as weird. Other-worlders like Martians might have a different view on this, but they don't yet have this technology.
Gilgamesh parahumans are a Homo superior design intended for high intelligence and lengthened lifespan. The Gilgamesh looks human, but features extensive eugenic and species modifications, including redesigned heart, arteries, spleen and gastrointestinal tract, plus alterations to the cell structure itself to reduce cumulative copying errors.
- Attribute Modifiers: DX+1 [20]; IQ+1 [20]; HT+1 [10].
- Advantages: Appearance (Attractive) [4]; Extended Lifespan 1 [2]; Longevity [2]; Resistant to Disease (+8) [5].
- Perks: Reproductive Control [1]; Sanitized Metabolism [1].
- Features: No Appendix; Taboo Traits (Genetic Defects, Mental Instability).
Gilgamesh in Earth 2100 is Legality Class 3, and costs $230,000.
Ishtar Template (TL9)
20 points
The Ishtar genetic upgrade is intended to cater to the desires of parents and creche-groups who want a child optimized for professions such as vid star, dancer, pop singer, model and so on. Designers selected a light, "elfin" build and a facial bone structure that computer-simulations indicated would produce distinctive but highly attractive looks. An extra feature was an augmented liver. They also deliberately modified the neurochemistry with sequences believed to enhance ego and competitiveness. Some believe they went a bit too far...
- Attribute Modifiers: ST-1; DX+1 [20]; HT+1 [10].
- Advantages: Appearance (Beautiful/Handsome) [12]; Resistant to Disease (+3) [3].
- Perks: Alcohol Tolerance [1].
- Disadvantages: Jealousy [-10] or Selfish (12) [-10]; Overconfidence (12) [-5].
- Quirks: Imaginative [-1].
- Features: No Appendix; Taboo Traits (Genetic Defects, Mental Instability).
Ishtar in Earth 2100 is Legality Class 4, and costs just $27,000 (-40 % to cost due to being old technology). It is one of the first species modification, and the oldest Ishtari are about 60 years old by now. These days, Siduri (see below) is used if can be afforded and if it's available.
Sub-Races
Siduri: A second-generation Ishtar, developed around 40 years ago. Add Longevity [2] and Proud [-1]; eliminate Jealousy or Selfish. $48,000; LC3; new point total 31.
Bioroids
Most Bioroids should take Social Stigma (Valuable Property) [-10], even if they aren't technically property such as M2050's.
All Bioroids start with meta-trait, Bioroid: You are an artificially constructed living organism who was assembled via biogenesis nanotechnology rather than grown from an embryo. Early Maturation 3-5 [0]; Sterile [0]; and Unusual Biochemistry [-5]. -5 points.
Eros (TL10) Template
45 points
The most luxurious bioroid available, Eros is a high-end pleasure bioroid with an inhumanly perfect body, plus brain, glandular, joint, physical, and bacteriological modifications to ensure it is always eager, playful, healthy, and disease-free. Grown as a professional courtesan or a rich person's living toy, the Eros can also be the basis for a devastating "Mata Hari" spy.
- Attribute Modifiers: ST-1 [-10]; HT+1 [10].
- Secondary Characteristic Modifiers: FP +1 [3].
- Advantages: Appearance (Very Handsome or Very Beautiful) [16]; Double-Jointed [15]; Resistant to Disease (+8) [5]; Sex Pheromones [28]; Voice [10].
- Perks: Alcohol Tolerance [1]; Deep Sleeper [1]; Sanitized Metabolism [1].
- Disadvantages: Bioroid [-5]; Chummy [-5]; Impulsiveness (12) [-10]; Lecherousness (12) [-15].
- Quirks: Attentive [-1]; Distinctive Feature (Exaggerated sexual characteristics) [-1].
- Racial Skill Modifiers: +1 to Erotic Art [2].
- Features: Exotic Genitalia; Sterile; Taboo Traits (Genetic Defects).
Availability: $190,000. LC3.
Sub-Races
Versions of the Eros exist to cater to various tastes, some exotic. Three examples:
- Fugu (+17 points): Its saliva and bodily fluids secrete a pleasure drug. Add Ecstasy Glands [17].
- Furry (+5 points): This bioroid has big eyes, soft fur, large cat, bunny, or fox ears, and a tail, but lacks such dangerous animalistic features as sharp teeth or claws. Add Acute Hearing 1 [2], Fur [1], Night Vision 1 [1], and Unnatural Features 1 [-1]. $98,000. LC3.
- Gothic (+13 points): A "vampire poser" model. Its metabolism is designed to release endorphins after drinking any quantity of blood except its own. It also has retractable fangs, and can enter a deathlike trance. Change its appearance to Appearance (Handsome, Androgynous) [12] with Distinctive Feature (Pale skin and red eyes) [-1]. Add Less Sleep 4 [4], Metabolism Control 2 [10], Night Vision 2 [2], Sharp Teeth (Switchable, +10%) [2]; Minor Addiction (Blood) [-1]. $224,000. LC3.
Arbeiter M2050 (TL10)
0 points
One of the most common bioroids, often known just by its famous model number M2050 (em-twenty-fifty). A hard-working, honest and useful member of society, produced by Technofarm International in Libya, using biogenesis technologies developed in Switzerland by Novartis. Hundreds of thousands have been produced so far.
Most are made with dark skin, which was a controversial choice, but it is practical in the tropics. Their appearance is otherwise normal and each one looks different. Fifty percent of each sex is produced. Sexually, they are like humans, though all are sterile.
They are, in theory, citizens of the country where they have their work contract (they always have a contract, none are made to be free). If one can pay back their own production cost ($52,000) he or she is free to go.
Most M2050's live and work at farms around Africa. Since the company that "bought" them usually owns the apartments they rent, the food they buy, the services they need, the entertainments, and even the banks where they deposit their money, hardly any of them ever manage to free themselves.
Besides, where would they go? And just paying themselves free isn't enough, they'd have to have even more cash to start a new life elsewhere. The work is hard, but they have everything they need. Many convert to Islam but frustrate even the most fanatic agitators; M2050's just aren't built to rebel. Most corporations don't treat their bioroids badly because it's terrible publicity. UN inspectors frequently visit farms to inspect the working conditions.
Paradoxically, life is often worse for the African people outside the corporation farmlands, as more and more humans are being replaced with bioroid workers. Hunger and the worst diseases have been eradictated in Africa, but life is still poor.
M2050 "neatly" shuts down and dies after reaching about 50 years of age. No pensioner problems!
- Attribute Modifiers: HT +1 [10].
- Advantages: Resistant to Disease (+3) (3).
- Disadvantages: Bioroid (-5), Self-Destruct [-10].
- Quirks: Broad-Minded [-1], Humble [-1], Staid [-1].
- Features: Sterile; Taboo Traits (Aggressiveness, Genetic Defects, Mental Instability).
- Availability: $26,000. LC3. Mass-production has halved the original cost, but the payment to void its contract is still $52,000. Granted, some of it is due to the expenses of three months in deep-learning. (There they learn basic life skills, English language, and Farming or other professional skills.)
Other Racial Templates
Cyborgs
Total Cyborg Template (TL9)
Here's a typical total cyborg template. More protection, better attributes, and many other cybernetic modifications are common. The only TL10 component here is Living Flesh.
This base total cyborg body character costs 100 points and $294,000. If the character does not pay the monetary cost herself, add advantages and disadvantages such as Duty, Social Stigma (Valuable Property) and/or Patron; you are probably a police or a special agent and the government (or even a megacorporation) paid for your cyborg body.
Very few people take a total cyborg body willingly. Usually, it's a result of an accident or a disease which ruined the person's original body.
Cost: Brain casing: $40,000 and Neural Jack $4,000; Total Cyborg Brain Transplant (Radical operation): $100,000; TL9 body: $75,000, +50 % from Living Flesh (and also doubled due to TL10, so total body cost is $150,000). Child body: costs 61 points and $234,000; this halves weight and power requirement (2D/16 h), but ST modifier is removed. Legality Class 3. Size Modifier -1.
- Templates: Android (TL9) (all traits itemized), Cyborg Brain [0].
- Attribute Modifiers: ST+3 [30].
- Secondary Characteristic Modifiers: HP+7 [14].
- Advantages: Absolute Direction [5]; Doesn't Breathe [20]; DR 5 [25]; Living Flesh [0]; Injury Tolerance (No Blood, Unliving) [25]; Immunity to Metabolic Hazards [30]; Machine (all traits itemized); Neural Jack [9]; Payload 1 [1]; Protected Vision [5].
- Perk: Accessories (Small computer) [1].
- Disadvantages: Electrical [-20]; Restricted Diet (Very Common, power cells, 2D/8 h) [-10]; Maintenance (one person, weekly) [-5]; Unhealing (Total) [-30].
- Additional 0-point Traits:
- You have an eight-hour energy reserve and need refueling three times a day. You can modify this with appropriate advantages (e.g., Doesn't Eat or Drink, for a reactor that can run for years) or disadvantages (e.g., Increased Consumption, for a "gas-guzzler" engine).
- You neither have nor can spend Fatigue Points; see Machines and Fatigue.
- Your body does not age. Instead, it wears out, with effects similar to aging.
- Obviously, you cannot have any bio-tech.
- Typical weight of a total cyborg body is 150-250 lbs.
Several traits not included above are common among cyborgs, notably the advantages Pressure Support, Sealed, and Vacuum Support, and the disadvantage Social Stigma (Valuable Property). Cyborgs are definitely viewed as freaks, and generally should have a related Secret or Social Stigma.
Advanced Total Cyborg Template (TL10)
State of the art cyborg body made (ONLY) in Switzerland or Japan.
115 points, $344,000. (Brain casing $40,000, Neural Jack $4,000, TL10 Android body $50,000, +100% from synthetic organs, doubled due to TL10, operation $100,000.)
(Child body costs 85 points and $264,000; this halves weight and power requirement (2D/48 h), but ST modifier is removed. Legality Class 3. Size Modifier -1.)
- Templates: Android (TL10) (all traits itemized), Cyborg Brain [0].
- Attribute Modifiers: ST+3 [30], HT +1 [10].
- Secondary Characteristic Modifiers: HP+7 [14].
