Earth 2100: Technology
<--Back to Earth 2100 Main Page
Very Brief Summary
World is generally TL9, but cybernetics, nanomaterials and other special materials, and bio-tech are at TL10.
Fusion Generators are late TL9, they are improving rapidly.
Anything at TL10 is state-of-the-art technology, available only at selected few facilities; double the cost (just $, not point costs) of anything that is TL10.
Beam weapons are not practical. Electromagnetic Guns are the best available weapons, but the materials required are very expensive: multiply the cost of all Electromagnetic Guns by 30.
Conventional firearms are still the most widely used weapons.
Common Gadgets and Vehicles
Personal Gadgets

- Neural Jack (TL9): 9 points, minor procedure, $4,000, LC3. Common in more wealthy countries, mainly because neural interface allows enjoying Sensies. In EU, you have to be 16 years old before you may get one. The most common location is the back of the neck. If you also want to record sensies, you either need a Complexity 7 Sensie Uplink program, or have to add a Computer Implant (TL9; $4,000; 7 points) so you don't have to plug in. Braintap Jack is a bit cheaper ($3,000) but rarely installed because it can only play and record sensies.
- Pad (TL9): Almost everyone carries a cellphone, which also doubles as a personal computer, calendar, clock, and so on. There are countless different models available.
- Cheap one (TL9): $100, 0.5 lbs., 2B/20 hr. Includes: Tiny radio communicator (1-mile range); Cable Jack; Small Computer, Complexity 4, stores 10 TB; Basic camera; GPS Receiver; LC4.
- Samsung Galactica (TL9): $3,000, 0.5 lbs., 2B/40 hr. Includes: Small radio communicator (20-mile range); Cable Jack; Small Computer (Fast, High-Capacity), Complexity 5, stores 100 TB; HD Camera; GPS Receiver; LC4.
Fashion and Hobbies
- Bioplas Swimsuit (TL10): $200.
Housing and Food
- Responsive Bed (TL9, $500 or $700 for double), or Fleshbed (TL10, $15,000).
- Genjac, fancy alcohol drink made by gengineered bacteria.
Survival and Camping
Vehicles
Police Equipment
- Heavy Flashlight (TL9): This projects a 50-yard beam, and can be used as a baton. $20, 1 lb., 2B/24 hr.
- Laser Microphone (TL9): This device turns any window or faceplate into a bug by reflecting an invisible laser beam off the glass and picking up vibrations caused by speech within the room. Range 3,000 yards. $200, 2.5 lbs., C/10 hr. LC3.
- Electronic Cuffs (TL9): ST 20 and DR 10. $40, 0.25 lbs., A/1 wk. LC4.
Typical Weapons
- Personal Sidearm: 10mm heavy pistol.
- Paramilitary or Special Ops: 5.7mm Personal Defense Weapon, or 10mm machine pistol. Snipers may use a 10mm sniper (storm) rifle or a 15mm anti-materiel rifle.
- Infantry: 7mm assault carbine or 10mm storm carbine, with 25mm grenade launcher.
- Holdout: Holdout pistol.
- Melee Weapons: Stun wand, baton, superfine knife. (Rarely: zap glove, monowire blade, vibroblade.)

Typical Armor
- Civilian and Police: Nanoweave jacket, trousers, vest, or tailored armor, or bioplas suit. For spacers, a skinsuit or nanoweave vacc suit.
- Sneaky Characters: Transparent bioplas suit, chameleon cloak.
- Light Infantry or Paramilitary: Nanoweave tactical suit or vest; light infantry helmet.
- Mechanized Infantry or SWAT: Combat hardsuit, space armor, or powered combat armor.
- Heavy Powered Infantry: Combat walker.
Transparent Bioplas Suit (TL10): costs $4,800 (a lot more in the black market) and is LC 2, but it's almost invisible when worn - and it can be combined with thermo-optic chameleon surface ($4,000) to make you harder to detect.
Chameleon Cloak (TL9): A large cloak that can be wrapped around a person or object to conceal it. Thermo-optic Chameleon Surface ($2,000), gives you +2 to Stealth against ordinary and infrared vision, +1 if you're moving. Weight 2 lb., LC3.
Control Rating
North Korea: CR6 – Total control. Laws are numerous and complex. The individual exists to serve the state. Many offenses carry the death penalty, and trials – if there are any at all - are a mockery. Taxation is crushing, taking most of an ordinary citizen's income. Censorship is common, and private ownership of any information technology is forbidden. All goods are controlled, and the government might even withhold basic necessities.
EU, Britain (only England, Wales, North Ireland and Channel Islands), Norway, Switzerland, Japan, China, Israel: CR4 – Controlled. Many laws exist; most are for the convenience of the state. Broadcast communications are regulated; private broadcasts (like CB) and printing may be restricted. Taxation is often heavy and sometimes unfair. Access to items of LC0 through LC3 is controlled.
Africa, Australia, Middle East (excluding Israel), Russia, South Korea, Taiwan, USA, most countries on Earth unless listed under another catergory: CR3 – Moderate. There are many laws, but most benefit the individual. Taxes are moderate and fair. Access to items of LC0 through LC2 is controlled.
Mars: CR2 – Free. Some laws exist; most benefit the individual. Taxes are light. Access to items of LC0 and LC1 is controlled.
